These two pictures are random, but I had to document these activities of Maggie- they were done several times a week for a month or two early in 2013. The quirkle blocks were a favorite of hers to play with- colors, shapes, towers- square blocks are fun! And then "cooking" by playing in the sink with dishes and random pieces of food (gross). A couple of times she left it at the table as dinner for her dad.
Mid-March, my oldest sister Stephanie and her family were going to the Salt Lake Temple to be sealed to their new daughter, Faith, that they had adopted from Haiti. I wanted to go, but my girls were both a little sick and as it got closer- Maggie was really sick with a bad cold/flu and a high temp. I was worried about leaving her home with Brad but I just really felt I wanted to go. Lizzy didn't seem as sick- her only symptoms had been throwing up once or twice a day - which was weird but not that uncommon for my spitty baby. I went to the doctor to make sure the trip was okay and he told me to go for it- she was holding down at least half of her feedings. So Lizzy and I flew to Salt Lake. She was hardly eating anything and on the flight there it was worse- I would feed her a tiny bit of baby food and she would spit it up. But it wasn't like a stomach bug, it was so weird.
She was so sleepy, but still pretty happy. I had the best nieces and nephews who watched the sick little girl during the sealing.
It was such a happy day! Faith was full of energy- she is so dang cute!
The best babysitter ever! And it was her birthday a couple of days later!
When we got home, Lizzy was getting lethargic and throwing up after every feeding. She started to not hold anything down.
It was hard to get Faith to hold still enough to take a picture with her- but I got one!
Jake and Brigham- the Callister boys have to stick together- they are few and far between!
She just kept falling asleep and wouldn't move much. I started to feel very worried. I was hoping to make my flight in the morning and just get home. I wanted to be home. But I was unsure if I should take her in- I didn't want to get stuck at the ER all night for nothing.
Luckily, my sister's father in law (an ER doctor) had just gotten home from a trip and came over to check her. He was very worried and said she was dehydrated. He told me to take her to Primary Children's immediately. So, my plans changed and we took off for the hospital. It was nice to have so much famiyl around. My sister Cinda drove us and my parents followed.
At first they didn't know what was wrong- but they needed to get fluid in her. She had lost almost 3 pounds since I had taken her into the doctor a few days before. Getting an IV in was the worst. Her veins were smaller because of dehydration and her chub was getting in the way.
She was so brave and was really cooperative. Still lethargic.
They weren't having success after 20 minutes of trying everywhere in her arm and hand. We took a break and they brought in another nurse to try. They tried both legs- it was awful. But they finally got it! Hooray!
They let me comfort her and give her some pedialyte.
They still didn't know what was wrong since her symptoms were weird so the doctor ordered lots of tests to rule things out. The stomach x-ray was so cute. They needed her in a certain position and the second I got her perfect, she fell asleep. Sleeping Beauty.
She got this purple blanket from the hospital. It was nice to have something clean, new, and cozy to wrap her in since I left in such a hurry and didn't have any of her blankets.
The RSV results came back positive. I was so surprised. She didn't have any nasal drip or congestion that I heard. But because she was dehydrated it had all solidified so much that she was gagging and throwing up even more. They had to suction her out- which was hard to watch- but helped her breath and hold food down so much better.
Meanwhile, Brad and Maggie rushed to catch a flight to be here with us. Maggie had the time of her life with her cousins. It was nice to have family to help.
Day 2 and we actually got a little smile. We knew things were getting better.
Dishcharged after almost 48 hours- so excited to go home!
Lizzy still wasn't her normal happy self- but she was so much better! So grateful for all the prayers and support.

So scary! Even though I'm sure it was so hard not being home for it, I'm so glad you had family there to help out! She is such a sweetie! RSV is the worst!
